Mission



The Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men, Inc., is an organization of African-American men who work to promote civic, educational, cultural, spiritual and economic betterment of the community.

The 200+ Men encompasses a broad spectrum of professions, trades, ages and viewpoints. The Board of Directors and membership adopted Community Betterment as the primary aim of the organization. This aim would be accomplished by focusing on three basic initiatives: Community, Economic Development and Education. Each initiatives is designed to achieve the following:

    1. Create better understanding and working relationships among people of various ethnic, racial, religious and cultural backgrounds;

    2. Provide opportunities whereby successful individuals can provide knowledge, inspiration and assistance to the young and deserving;

    3. Assist in the development of public policy so as to ensure the input of those who tend to be underrepresented in the policymaking process; and,

    4. Assist in mobilizing the resources and the opportunities for all who have the capability and the desire to develop to their fullest in community leadership, educational achievement and successful economic ventures.

    The 200+ Men will work to become catalysts for positive change in the region. It will work both alone and in tandem with other community organizations on a variety of projects that have goals and objectives similar to those of the 200+ Men. This organization serves the eight cities of Hampton Roads, namely Chesapeake, Hampton, Isle of Wight County, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

    The 200+ Men, Inc. seeks to foster an esprit de corps among myriad segments of the community so that a common bond can be forged to promote brotherhood, inclusiveness and caring, accruing to the betterment of our community and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
